rambling

When I read the little square box, I immediately felt bad. All those crayons my daughter mangled and destroyed – I threw them away. Then I got her a brand-new box. She did not respect these crayons either, and soon, her crayon container looked the same as the old one. I did not replace these crayons, and she used them for years.

This makes me think about what other wasteful things I have done that could have been done differently. Better.

What about you? Would you like a “do-over” about something? Please share in the comments!

Where is Kindness?

Kindness is still here on Earth. But the majority of people do not bother with it. They are too busy to waste time being nice, especially to strangers.
There is much more to kindness than ‘being nice.’ This definition of kindness explains it better: Kindness is loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness.

Today is short because I have to deal with many mundane things this morning. I will try to act kindly to those having to deal with me. Ha.

Paradise Lost

When I think of Maui, I remember how lush it was. The breathtaking colors and the scent of flowers carried by a light breeze and a touch of humidity made it a tropical paradise. I honeymooned there in the Napili/Ka’anapali area 35 years ago.

What is left of Lahaina is engulfed in black smoke. My heart aches for that sweet town. My heart also aches for the anniversary plans I surprised my husband with last week – 11 nights at the Hyatt Regency in Maui. I spent weeks arranging everything to be – just so.

Hurricanes have ruined my plans before. Our week in Cancun was spent inside due to torrential rains and wind, which closed the beach. It turned out to be caused by 3 hurricanes that were triangulated over Mexico. I was quite disappointed. Now that I think about it, our honeymoon would be in Cancun, but we changed plans and booked Maui instead. That was the year Hurricane Gilbert struck on Sept 15th, 1988 (two days before my wedding) and destroyed Cancun’s resort areas.

Now, one month before my 2nd honeymoon in Maui, hurricane winds and wildfires are destroying the island. I feel numb, like I am in shock. I need to book a plan B, but my heart isn’t in it. At least not yet.

Wisdom Then & Now

In the book of Luke, Jesus tells his apostles a story about a rich man who has a dishonest steward. I had read the story before, but I did not get what Jesus meant when he told them;
“A person, faithful in what is small, is faithful also in much; and the person that is unrighteous in what is least, is unrighteous also in much.”
-Luke 16:10

He was teaching them a way to judge who to trust.
2,000 years later, that statement is still true.

Hmmm.
